Integrity, Courage and being the Self you want to be

Integrity, Courage and being the Self you want to be

February 2020 Full Moon Journal

Hi Darlings,

How is everyone? This month I’ve been looking at Integrity and through the art she’s been looking at me too. What is Integrity to you? How does it feel to have it or not and what scenarios or prerequisites do those feelings attach to?

If I had to sum it up in a sentence, for me it would be: Finding your truth and having the courage to live from it.

What do you stand for? What do you lean on to support you? What do you align with that grounds and strengthens you, and the world around you?

Integrity is as much about courage as it is about conviction. Our environment helps to shape us; we agree with or rebel against the ethics of our family of origin, our culture and our dominant influences; metabolizing them into judgments that we level upon ourselves and others. Having agency is exercising your power to challenge, replace and strengthen your beliefs as you see fit. If you see that something needs changing, be that change. It doesn’t mean it’s easy of course, but you’re strong enough to do it. As Maya Angelou said; “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

Living from your truth is more of an instinctual direction than walking a straight, unbroken line. Sometimes we’re on a path, sometimes we’re in the wilderness, and sometimes we just get lost. Like following a breadcrumb trail, we find clues to our true selves and what we believe in everywhere. You find one truth, and then another and another, some hidden under an untruth, some in plain sight. It’s the act of looking up and seeing where your truths are taking you that makes sense of them all, like points on a map. That map, and the act of looking, is your Integrity. It’s how you navigate your world and how you course-correct when you take a wrong turn. Our personal power acts as our barometer, expanding or contracting in response to thoughts and actions that are right or wrong for us. We find out who we are by experiencing who we’re not, and that’s totally ok. Integrity and innocence are intertwined; we try, we fail, we learn. We show our integrity in how we deal with our mistakes and our challenges. Owning them, becoming better as a result of them, that’s growth. That’s courage.

Integrity asks you to put yourself on the line for what you believe is right. Sometimes that means giving up the things that are close to right, but not right for you. It’s not always easy or glamorous to be true to yourself but it gives you something no other can give you; self-respect. Living in accordance with what you believe takes assertiveness, boundary work, compassion for yourself and others, and a whole lot of tact. Integrity, courage, humility and honour are all practices, none of them are one-time gigs. We work at them. Your nobility is never more visible that when you’re doing your best to match your behaviors to your beliefs.

Be fully in the moment, be yourself and do your best. That’s it. Trust in your humanity, your innate goodness and walk with your head held high. You’re magnificent 😊

I want to leave you with a quote by Sonya Renee Taylor:

“I have never asked the ocean to shrink or play small. I have never asked the stars to shine less brightly or be less awe-strikingly gorgeous. I am made of the exact same materials as each. WHY SHOULD I DO OR BE ANY LESS?!?!?”

February Reading

6 of Autumn: Taking Stock

Autumn Guardian: The Offering

20 Reclamation (Lunar Arcana)

It’s a time to take stock of all that we’re thankful for and what no longer serves us. That which holds us back and makes us feel dis-empowered becomes The Offering. Limiting beliefs, thoughts and behaviors that keep us playing small are offered up to who we can become is we choose ourselves and choose courage. This bold choice brings Reclamation; reclaiming the parts of you that were kept behind the doubts. The parts stuck in mental loops of the past or worries for the future, the self you’d love to be ‘someday’. The only time is now, you’ve brought all that is you here, now to live and enjoy it fully.

To work with the gathering energies of the moon, speak your heart, set your intentions and ask for what you need in the 3 nights leading up to full moon. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy, just look up. Words from your heart mean the most.

Thank you for reading and have a great month!

With much love,

Rebecca
